Danette House is a seventh generation Ozarker and a storyteller. Danette delves into the art of narrative storytelling, embracing and preserving a heritage that traces back to her ancestors who
settled in Ozark County, Missouri, in 1838. She has trained under Master Storyteller Marideth Sisco as part of the Traditional Arts Apprenticeship Program of the Missouri Arts Council
She has spent her life living near the very locations where her ancestors settled and maintained a lasting presence for generations. She hopes to be a living bridge between the past and present, intertwining her own family branches into her accounts of lives lived in the rugged hills and hollers of the Ozarks.
Danette lives in West Plains with her husband Reggie House, who also belongs to a multi-generational family deeply rooted in Howell and Ozark Counties. She came to storytelling after thirty-one years of teaching in grades one through five, and English in Middle School. Preserving the stories and memories of our Ozarks ancestors is a calling and she feels privileged to be able to share that with others.
